Tenure-track professorship pursuant to § 99 Para. 5 of the University Act (UG) "Honeybee research"

(Filling to occur initially with a limited term of 6 years as Assistant Professor (f/m) with Qualification Agreement. Career goal is a transition to an open-ended employment relationship as Associate Professor (f/m); 40 hours per week; to be occupied in winter semester 2017/18)

This tenure-track professorship researches and teaches within the scientific domains of animal physiology, immunology and ethology. It is desired that the incumbent has a special focus on honeybee health to strengthen the research within the institute on immunology, brood rearing, reproduction, pollination and population dynamics of honeybees. The tenure-track professorship is centred around basic research but application-relevant research is to be pursued too. Scientific networking with other research groups within the department (neurobiology, neuroethology, ecology, evolution, swarm-intelligence in social insects, biological modelling) is favoured as well as participation in the research-core areas of the university (FSP “Environment and global change”, FSP “Modelling and Simulation”).


Professional qualifications

  • Doctorate or Ph.D. in Zoology followed by several years of experience as Post-Doc or in a comparable Position
  • Excellent research in honeybee-specific biology (commensurate with academic age)
  • Success in the recruitment of third-party funded projects (desirable)
  • International experience after having finished the master’ programme or comparable experience in a relevant non-university institution (desirable)
  • Didactic skills
  • Very good skills of English and experience in publishing in this language
  • Gender mainstreaming competence

  • High personal motivation towards scientific excellence in research and teaching as well as the ability to inspire colleagues and students
  • Ability of independently conducting largely third-party financed research and to cooperate within research teams
  • Management potential
  • Responsible work conduct, resilience and skills in problem solving

  • Interest in the supervision of students
  • Willingness to develop a high level of competence for teaching in German language within the qualification period


Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): B1 bzw. A2 with qualificational agreement

Minimum salary

The minimum salary as stated in the collective agreement and according to the classification scheme is EUR 50772.40 gross per year or EUR 60043.20 gross per year with qualificational agreement.
