6.5.6. Summary statistics
A Summary Statistics (Analysis) tool exists in ArcGIS and is useful for performing basic calculations on fields in an attribute table. This can be valuable for summarizing large quantities of data within GIS (similar to basic statistics that can be calculated in Excel). For example, the sum, mean, min, max, range, standard deviation, and count can be calculated for each selected attribute. The results are saved in an output table and can be viewed directly in ArcMap. Also, to access the statistics of single fields in an attribute table, Right-click the layer in the TOC > Open attribute table and then Right-click field name and choose the Statistics option.
