Research Interests

  • The co-evolution of host-parasite interactions using honeybees and its pathogens. My research is focused in the study of deformed wing virus (DWV) polymorphisms, the adaptation of these polymorphisms to diverse transmission routes and the resultant levels of virulence.

Research Area in COLOSS

I am interested in exploring the relationship between DWV virulence and transmission routes for DWV polymorphisms. It is of my interest trace the passage of DWV polymorphisms through various horizontal transmissions routes (i.e. larval food, trophallaxis), including the transmission mediated by Varroa destructor. Also, explore the vertical transmission pass of DWV polymorphisms, a rout of transmission with important consequences for the understanding of DWV transmission across Euope. The goal is to understand the extent of competition among DWV strains during the transmission process and exploitation by DWV of its host, the honey bee.
